The past two weeks has brought
forth miracles in the Worthen home. I’m
not just talking about the Padres hitting themselves out of last place, either. I’m talkin’ real miracles: the kind
that reaffirms the truth that there really is a God in Heaven looking out for
His children on Earth.
As everyone who has read this blog
knows, my family has recently been suffering financially with the teacher
imposition and with Stephen not having a steady job in the past 4 years. What some of you also might know is that we’ve
been attempting, somewhat unsuccessfully to refinance our home for the past 8
months. It’s been a messy business with
dropped calls, lost paperwork, lots of disappointment. We didn’t really get anywhere until my angel
mother took over the cause and started hounding the mortgage company on a daily
basis. Well, last week we finally closed
the deal which will lower our monthly bills.
And guess what? Because of the
timing of the close we don’t have to pay mortgage at all for May and June. That’s right the very same months that my
paycheck is slashed in shreds, by biggest bill doesn’t have to be paid! What incredible timing!
That’s not the biggest news,
however. The real miracle came with a
phone call a couple of days ago. Stephen’s
old boss who he worked for before we had kids called to offer him a real,
full-time, salary accounting job!!! Stephen didn’t apply for the job, he didn’t
even know they were looking. The bosses said
they were thinking about him and knew he’d do well. I couldn’t believe it. After years and years of unemployment and
part-time jobs, I had almost given up hoping that my husband would get the kind
of job his schooling and temperament qualifies him for. I’m so happy for him. And I’m so proud of him too. Stephen is the kindest, most selfless
person. He is relentless in his service
to others and really, truly deserves the chance to provide for the family he
cares so much about.
To top it all off, it looks like I
won’t have to work this summer. I’d been
looking into summer work and even applied for a job that I didn’t get. Instead it looks like I’ll get to spend lots
of time with my boys and with my nephews, which is everything I could ask
for.
I feel so blessed to have such
wonderful people around me all the time. We have been the recipients of so much
love and thoughtfulness over the past year.
On a number of occasions we have been surprised with gifts and food and
even money. In my church we believe
that the love of God is made known through other people. I have seen His angels on Earth time and time
again. I hope that as my family regains
some financial footing, that we will be able to reach out and help others in
need. I am so honored to be the
recipient of real-life miracles.
